Rosenberg: Between the horror of fiction and the crude reality of Guatemala

More so than a conspiracy fiction, like the novels associated with Dan Brown or Tom Clancy, what Guatemalans are living today is making us confront a hard to believe and frightening reality. Waking up today to a media frenzy of intrigue, corruption and indignation, makes the world feel scary. We feel anger and fear. ¿Can this case be resolved? It is our opinion that it can be resolved and it should be resolved, for the peace and credibility of the Guatemalan Community.

Rodrigo Rosenberg's published post mortun video creates commotion everywhere. The video, that has been seen throughout the country and the world, implicates the intervention of President Alvaro Colóm, his wife and his secretary of state in the murder of beloved businesman Khalil Musa, his daughter Marjorie and Rosenberg´s very own murder. Rosenberg was murdered while riding his bicycle on the morning of Sunday 10th, 2009.

Roberto Rosenberg´s accusation is not verifiable by Guatemalaglobal.com and thus we limit ourselves to a neutral and objective perspective on the events of the past 2 days.

The real problem that is presented by the video, against the Guatemalan Government, is the logic of Rosenberg´s arguments and the instability that is generated in the already weakened credibility of the present administration. In a previous article. view article here (not translated) Guatemalaglobal.com talks about the overwhelming average of 102 deaths per week and how government's efforts to reduce crime should be intensified. This fact alone is a deadly blow against the credibility of our own system of security and justice.

Rosenberg had a notable professional trajectory in Guatemala. His position is clear and against government authorities, not just accusing them of lacking administrative efficiency and dubious legality of its current projects, but also positions them as part of a conspiracy in the death of honorable and good people; like Mr. Khalil and Marjorie Musa.

The video started to circulate in youtube at noon yesterday, and in less than 24hrs, more than 30,000 people watched it, creating in the nation a sense of discontent, frustration, anger and confusion in Guatemala´s population.

These reported crimes are a hard blow to Guatemala's sense of institution. It is well known by many, that there is little trust in the public desicions made through out Colom´s administration, as well as Mrs. Colom´s, (First Lady of Guatemala) who has been criticized of not adhering to efficient economic standards, and additional speculation of dubious legality and transparency of many of the projects she manages.

These crimes have to be clarified, and the people responsible for the murder of these 3 Guatemalans have to be punished. Many have been murdered in this sea of impunity and violence in which we live. Those who are responsible need to be held accountable and suffer the consequences as Guatemalan Law indicates.
